Lots of lovely pictures and inspiring DIY projects. I love Grace Bonney's blog and this book was just more of the best stuff. Loved getting to thumb through bunches and bunches of new Sneak Peeks. Also liked getting to read more about Grace's path to the blog. I paged through it in about two lunches.

I don't know why I keep checking out books that come out of blogs I follow. I always expect them to be more than print copies of things seen or read on the blogs. This one, like the others I've read, is not. I like the site so much, I almost didn't write this review, but that seemed dishonest somehow.

Of course you can see all of this on the blog, but personally I love to be able to hold an actual book in my hands and put the computer/ipad away for awhile. 5)Before and After spaces which concentrates on redoing furniture. Crafts and floral arrangements fill the rest of the book.
Bonney has already inspired her readers with her blog and now she created a book to do so. I fully intend to give it a careful read five or ten years from now and have a good laugh. By then I’ll see which ideas stand the test of time, the things that may be overdone and ubiquitous now but still have longterm resonance. For now, this will just sit on my bookshelf – real, not wallpaper. Did you know you can make cake plates by gluing a saucer on a candlestick? Unless you’ve been living under a DIY rock this past year, I bet you did.

I just want decorating tips.” In that case, you’ll miss half the fun of this book. You may be better off looking at a decorating book that isn’t written by bloggers or designers du jour. But don’t ask me for recommendations, I can’t think of any. Regardless of style, this book has something for every design enthusiast. While most of the spaces profiled in the book are on the small side, the styles are beautiful and varied.
I am using the idea of lighting for my kitchen with the hanging light bulbs, . Buy the book and see what I mean, you will love it too. Again, I love this book, and Powell's Books has the greatest prices and customer service. I have been buying books from Powell's since 2005. It’s so full of beautiful design projects and a hard copy reference book would be so perfect to own.

As a perpetual student of design, I can’t think of a better way to honor and appreciate such amazing talent and ideas. And let it serve as something to aspire to in my future. It even had instructions for basic flower arrangements, a much overlooked but useful skill in design.
With over 700 color photos and illustrations and projects that are customizable, relatable, and affordable, this is the democratizing design book everyone has been waiting for. That said, much of the text seemed self-serving or insignificant. (I suggest you do what I did.) The photos were the important part, after all. “Now wait just a minute,” I can hear you say. I don’t have any chandeliers and I have never painted a single thing with chalkboard paint. I don’t read this Sponge Therapy blog or whatever it’s called.
Remarkably, most homes not only incorporated books and libraries as design elements they also focused on and celebrated living with shelves and stacks of books.
